Where to stay to see the Bosphorus

The Bosphorus is seen mostly from the European shore north of Karaköy (Beşiktaş, Ortaköy, Bebek) and from the Asian shore. Beşiktaş hotels are away from the metro: allow a taxi or bus to Sultanahmet. Karaköy, more central, is linked by tram and funicular. To choose the district, see where to stay in Istanbul and the Beşiktaş district.

Hotels on the water's edge

The Çırağan is a 19th-century Ottoman palace turned five-star, with a pool overlooking the Bosphorus, but no metro nearby. The Peninsula, opened in 2023 at Galataport, is the most expensive of the selection. See also the Çırağan palace for the building's history.

The big Beşiktaş hotels

The Shangri-La Bosphorus occupies the waterfront between Dolmabahçe and the Naval Museum, with suites with two terraces facing the Bosphorus according to Booking. The Conrad shows a 9.3 score and several room categories with panoramic views; the Swissôtel adds a rooftop pool and a spa. Swissôtel reviews praise the view at sunrise and sunset. Nearby: Dolmabahçe Palace.

Hagia Sophia views, for less

In Sultanahmet, the Seven Hills offers a terrace with views of Topkapı, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, with a score of 8.7 on Booking (over 500 reviews). The Sura Hagia Sophia has rooms with a Hagia Sophia view, and The And Hotel a terrace facing its minarets. For other hotels in the district, read the best hotels in Sultanahmet.

How to get the view

  • Filter for "Bosphorus view" or "sea view" on Booking, and read the room description.
  • Write to the hotel to confirm the category: a view is never guaranteed without that mention.
  • Think terrace: in Sultanahmet, a rooftop terrace is sometimes better than a room with a partial view.
  • Compare budgets in the best hotels by budget.
  • Search directly: hotels in Beşiktaş on Booking.
