The museum is municipal (founded in 2009 by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality): the Museum Pass and the MüzeKart are not valid. Sources differ on payment at the desk (cash, card, Istanbulkart): bring a card and a little lira, or buy online.
Hours: the sources disagree
The official site says every day from 8am to 6:30pm. A 2026 guide gives Tuesday to Sunday 8:30am to 4:30pm and closed Monday. Our page follows that second version. If in doubt, arrive between 9am and 3pm on a weekday other than Monday.
Direct ticket or GetYourGuide?
The GetYourGuide offer is an entry ticket booked ahead; resellers show about to for a skip-the-line ticket. Compare with 900 TL on the day you book: queues are rarely long, so the point is mostly paying ahead in your own currency.
What you see
Under a 38 m dome, the 360-degree painting of the assault of 29 May 1453: breached walls, cannons, smoke and some 10,000 figures, with the roar of cannons and the mehter band. Before it, an exhibition on the siege and the reign of Mehmed II. Allow an hour. The platform is not suited to pushchairs. Our page: Panorama 1453 Museum.
Pair it with the walls
The museum is in Topkapı Culture Park (tram T1 or T4, Topkapı stop), opposite the Theodosian Walls, close to where the Ottomans broke through. A walk along the ramparts completes the visit. A bad-weather idea: what to do in Istanbul when it rains.
