What the official ticket covers in 2026
- The combined ticket: 2,750 TL for foreigners, palace, harem and Hagia Irene. The harem alone costs 1,050 TL, Hagia Irene alone 1,050 TL, the night visit 4,000 TL (National Palaces price list, October 2026).
- Free up to age 6; reduced rate for students aged 7 to 25, with foreigners paying double the reduced rate.
- The Museum Pass: third-party sites say it covers the palace but not reliably the harem and Hagia Irene; check before relying on it, see the museum pass.
- The closing day: Tuesday. Dolmabahçe closes on Mondays instead.
- Opening hours: roughly 9am to 6pm in summer; the palace can close without notice during official visits.
Ticket only or guided tour: the honest view
The palace is huge and poorly signposted: a guide saves time at the harem, whose access is limited to time slots. On the other hand a guide does not remove the security queue, and the guide fee is sometimes added to a ticket that is already included in the listing: read the "included" line. If you have an audio guide or a good guidebook and arrive at opening time, the official ticket is enough.
Guided tour with ticket
About 3 hours: ten minutes around Sultanahmet, two hours in the palace, forty-five minutes in the harem. The meeting point is near the Hippodrome (a small kiosk facing the German Fountain), with a second option at Galataport on some versions. Languages: English, German; a private version exists. Tickets are timed: a few minutes' delay can make them expire. See the listing.
Ticket with audio guide
A fast-track access with audio guide, rated 4.1 and shown at about $77, well above the official ticket. One traveller writes that the harem was not included. Choose it only if the listing clearly states the harem for your date. See the listing.
Private tour with tickets
A private guide for about 3 hours 30, with palace, harem and Hagia Irene according to the title; meeting point behind Hagia Sophia, at the palace entrance. We did not note its price or rating: compare with the group tour. For a full day, see also the private one-day tour of Istanbul. See the listing.
Which option to choose?
- Independent, best price: the official combined ticket.
- A guide, one morning: the guided tour with ticket.
- Family or private group: the private tour.
- Two monuments in one visit: our comparison Topkapı and Hagia Sophia guided tour.
- Torn between two palaces: Topkapı or Dolmabahçe.
Nearby: around Topkapı Palace.
