The rules to know in 2026
- Two separate routes: since 2024, worshippers pray on the ground floor and foreign visitors follow a paid route upstairs. The Istanbul Museum Pass is not valid here, see the museum pass.
- The fee: €25 for foreigners, free for children under 8 with ID. No free day is announced for the gallery.
- Where to buy: at the ticket office facing the Fountain of Ahmed III. We could not confirm that an official online ticket shop exists: be wary of sites calling themselves "official".
- Opening hours: roughly 9am to 7:30pm, with a Friday pause around midday prayer (sources give between 12pm and 2:30pm); check on the day.
- Works: travellers report scaffolding and ongoing restoration; some reviews ask for clearer information about it. No offer is exempt.
- Dress code: shoulders and knees covered, hair covered for women; see what to wear in mosques.
Official ticket or online ticket: the honest view
The skip-the-line ticket is not cheaper than the official one: it adds an audio guide and spares you the ticket-office queue. According to third-party sites that queue can reach 30 to 60 minutes between April and October; off-season or at opening time it is short and the office is enough. The security check remains compulsory for everyone, and travellers still report a wait at that step with a skip-the-line ticket. We therefore guarantee no precise time saving.
Skip-the-line ticket with audio guide
The offer to compare with the official ticket. Price, rating and reviews: see the listing; if the audio guide works through an app or QR codes, download it before you arrive. Check what access the ticket gives. See the listing.
Visit with a live guide
A guided tour with fast-track entrance. Price, duration, reviews and whether the displayed price includes the €25 entry fee: see the listing. Compare it with a combined tour on our page Topkapı and Hagia Sophia guided tour. See the listing.
Which option to choose?
- October to March, early morning: the official ticket at the office.
- April to September, midday or weekends: the skip-the-line ticket with audio guide.
- You want a guide: the guided tour with fast-track entrance, checking what the price includes and who you pay the entry fee to.
- Several monuments: see the Hagia Sophia, Topkapı and Dolmabahçe combo and the 2026 fees table.
- Neighbouring mosque: the Blue Mosque is free; compare in Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque or Süleymaniye.
