Museum of Illusions Istanbul: tickets, opening hours and reviews

Updated on October 15, 2026

The Museum of Illusions in Istanbul occupies the Narmanlı Han, a building on İstiklal Avenue (no. 180) in Beyoğlu, about ten minutes' walk from Taksim Square. It is not a history museum but a playful visit: rooms and installations of optical illusions, trompe-l'œil and perception tricks where you touch, lie down and take photos. The official website presents the rooms by theme, including the Infinity Room, the True Mirror, the Hollow Face and the kaleidoscope. The visit usually takes one to one and a half hours. It suits a family or a break on a rainy day in a district where you walk a lot; for more ideas with children, see Istanbul with children.

Highlights

İstiklal Avenue

İstiklal Avenue

The museum is in the heart of Beyoğlu's great pedestrian avenue, where the red tram runs. You can walk to it from Taksim by going down the avenue, or from Tünel by going up.

The Infinity Room

Mirrors and lights give the impression of endless space: it is one of the most photographed rooms, best done when it is not crowded so you have time to pose.

The True Mirror and the Hollow Face

The True Mirror shows your face as others see it, without the reversal of an ordinary mirror, and the Hollow Face illusion plays on how the brain reads relief. Two short installations that children enjoy.

The photos

Almost every installation is designed for photos: follow the markings on the floor and walls to place your camera, and ask another visitor for help so you can be in the picture.
