The rooftops at a glance
| Place | Best for | What the sources say |
|---|---|---|
| Mikla (Marmara Pera hotel, Beyoğlu) | The panoramic view and a dinner | Open-air bar facing the Golden Horn, the old city and Galata Tower; about 2,500 to 4,000 TL per person with wine (May 2026) |
| Nova (Galata) | A relaxed terrace facing the tower | Mains about 500 to 800 TL, a glass of wine about 350 to 450 TL (May 2026) |
| Seven Hills (Sultanahmet) | Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque | View of both monuments, the call to prayer between them at sunset; tourist-style food |
| Kadıköy roof bars | A gentler budget, Asian side | Easygoing mood, sunset facing the European skyline |
| 360 Istanbul (İstiklal) | A Beyoğlu classic | Well-known address, not re-checked for this guide |
What is the best rooftop in Istanbul? For the view, Mikla; for view for the money, Nova or the Kadıköy roofs.
For the view: Mikla and Nova
Mikla, at the top of the Marmara Pera hotel, is the most quoted rooftop: book a dinner for sunset, the city lights come on during the meal. Nova, smaller, frames Galata Tower up close; arrive just before sunset to see the tower light up.
For the monuments: Sultanahmet
Seven Hills gives the most direct view of Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, with the call to prayer at sunset. Expect decent but unremarkable food: you go for the view, not the meal.
For a gentler budget: Kadıköy
On the Asian side, Kadıköy's roof bars are cheaper and more relaxed; the view looks over the European skyline at sunset. See also Kadıköy, the Asian side.
Practical tips
- Book the sunset slot, especially April to October and at weekends.
- Dress: upscale hotel rooftops expect smart clothes (not checked venue by venue); neighbourhood bars are casual.
- Alcohol: legal in bars and restaurants but expensive; see alcohol in Istanbul: the rules.
- Prices: we have one guide dated May 2026 only; check the menu before sitting down.
- Hours: not recorded, they change with the season.
Which one to choose?
- The best view: Mikla.
- Facing Galata Tower: Nova.
- The monuments: Seven Hills.
- A cheaper drink: Kadıköy.
- No bar, on the water: a sunset cruise with drinks and snacks, see the Bosphorus sunset cruise.
