The malls at a glance

What is the best shopping mall in Istanbul? For atmosphere and brands, İstinye Park; for access, Kanyon or Zorlu Center.

For brands: İstinye Park

İstinye Park mixes covered galleries and open-air streets around a central park, with an IMAX cinema and a bazaar of Turkish products. One source gives 12 pm to 10 pm for the Global Blue refund point on the first floor. See our page İstinye Park and Kanyon.

For a rainy day: Zorlu Center

Zorlu Center combines a mall, a stage and a hotel at one address (page: Zorlu Center). One source gives 10 am to 7:30 pm for the refund point on the Levazım side: ask the shop which desk to use. See also what to do in Istanbul when it rains.

Markets remain more typical

For Turkish fashion on the street, go to Nişantaşı; for souvenirs, the Grand Bazaar and what to bring back from Istanbul.

The tax refund, step by step

  1. Buy in a Global Blue shop (look for the "Tax Free" sticker) and ask for the form at the till with your passport.
  2. One recent source reports a minimum of 1,000 TRY per receipt, others much older figures (100 to 118 TRY): no official threshold is confirmed here, check with Global Blue.
  3. At the airport, have the form validated by customs before you check your bags, then collect your refund; without a customs stamp there is no refund.
  4. Hotels, meals and guided tours cannot be refunded.
