Private or shared: what changes
A standard cruise, like the Bosphorus cruise on a public ferry, costs a fraction of a yacht, but you share the deck with dozens of strangers, with no commentary and no stop of your choosing. A private yacht mostly sells time and privacy: you set the pace with the captain, the music is yours, and you can slow down in front of what you like. For dinner on board, see our comparison of the Bosphorus dinner cruise; for an evening departure, see the sunset cruise.

What the yacht shows you
The listings announce the main landmarks of the southern part of the strait: Ottoman palaces, the Maiden's Tower, the bridges. A typical route passes the Dolmabahçe Palace, the Çırağan Palace, the Ortaköy mosque, the 15 July Bridge and the Maiden's Tower. The exact route varies from one offer to another: ask before booking, and if you want to see Kandilli and the Rumeli Hisarı fortress, further north, check that it goes that far.
How long and when
- 2 hours: enough for the classic section of the strait, at sunset.
- 2.5 hours and more: if you want to go further north or take the time for photos.
- Sunset: this is the time most offers ask for; book a few days ahead in high season. The exact time varies with the month.
- Wind and rain: read the listing's cancellation and rescheduling policy before paying.
What the price covers, and what is not included
- The "per boat" price: a private offer is often paid per group up to a maximum capacity. Check the capacity before inviting friends.
- Drinks and snacks: depending on the listing, some are included (snacks, basic drinks), others are paid on board. Alcohol is almost always an option: see our guide to alcohol in Istanbul.
- Options: guide, photographer, live music, decoration for a proposal or a birthday are offered as extras on some offers.
- The departure point: read it on the listing before booking the hotel or the taxi; it changes from one offer to another. To get there, see transport in Istanbul.
- Tips: see money, payment and tipping in Istanbul.

Which offer to choose?
- Most booked: the small-group yacht cruise with snacks, from €35, with a private option at €390 (October 2026).
- A yacht with guide and snacks, no questions asked: the private yacht with guide.
- A group or a party: the 68-foot private yacht and its options.
- Couple or family photos: the private yacht with photos. See also our guide to the photo shoot in Istanbul.
- A yacht with a guide but without hiring the whole boat: the sunset cruise on a luxury yacht.
- A medium-sized boat: the 19 m yacht.
- Small budget: a public ferry or a ferry ride gives roughly the same view for very little money.
A note on the yachts you will see
The big white yacht in the photo below is the Savarona, a Turkish state vessel: it cannot be hired.
