Kılıç Ali Paşa Hammam (Tophane): Sinan's restored bathhouse, prices and booking
The Kılıç Ali Paşa Hammam (Kılıç Ali Paşa Hamamı) stands in Tophane, on the Bosphorus, between Karaköy and Cihangir. It belongs to the complex Mimar Sinan built around 1580 for the Ottoman admiral Kılıç Ali Pasha, together with the mosque of the same name. Restored and reopened in 2012, it is one of the best-preserved historic baths in the city: its great dome and marble hot room make it a much-photographed spot. Unlike the big tourist hammams of the old town, it is on the Beyoğlu side of the city. The official website lists a single traditional ritual, massages à la carte and a children's rate. The hammam is open every day, with separate sessions: women during the day, men in the evening. To compare with other baths by Sinan, see the Çemberlitaş Hammam and the Cağaloğlu Hammam.
Highlights

Sinan's dome
The bath is covered by a vast stone dome lit by small openings, above the marble hot room. It is the main reason to come: people visit for the architecture as much as for the treatment.

The neighbouring mosque
The hammam stands beside the mosque of the same complex, also designed by Sinan. Allow a few minutes to walk around it before or after your bath.

The Tophane fountain
On the nearby square stands the monumental Tophane fountain, a good landmark for finding the district from the tram stop.
How the ritual goes
The "traditional ritual" follows the classic order: you sweat in the hot room, then an attendant of the same sex scrubs your skin with a horsehair mitt (kese) and washes you in a foam bath. The site also offers massages (full body, back, feet, sports or deep-tissue), booked separately.
Prices
Traditional ritual: 4,700 TL. Child aged 4 to 12: 3,000 TL. Child aged 0 to 3: free, on a parent's lap. Full-body massage (50 minutes): 5,000 TL; sports massage (50 minutes): 5,500 TL; deep-tissue massage (75 minutes): 7,700 TL; partial massage (25 minutes): 3,800 TL; foot massage (25 minutes): 3,200 TL.
Practical info
Tips
- The hammam recommends booking, at least a week ahead in high season, through the official website (reservation section) or by phone. Cancellation requires at least 48 hours' notice. The site announces a 5% discount for cash payment; euros, dollars and Turkish lira are accepted, as are most bank cards except American Express. Prices are in Turkish lira, which change with inflation: they were read in October 2026 and should be confirmed when you book. Sessions are separate (women by day, men in the evening): check that your chosen time matches your group, because couples cannot bathe together during the day.
