Fenerbahçe Park (Fenerbahçe Parkı) is a large public park on the Sea of Marmara, in the Fenerbahçe neighbourhood of Kadıköy, about 1.5 km south of central Kadıköy. The neighbourhood takes its name from the lighthouse that stands here ("fener" = lighthouse, "bahçe" = garden): a light was ordered here in 1562 by Suleiman the Magnificent, on the cape then called Kalamış, and the present tower dates from 1857. The park is a popular place for locals to stroll: old trees, lawns, playgrounds and paths along the water, with the Sea of Marmara and, on a clear day, the Princes' Islands on the horizon. Access is free. Allow one to two hours, or half a day if you combine it with the Moda seafront.
Highlights

The Fenerbahçe Lighthouse
A cylindrical masonry tower about 25 metres tall with two galleries, completed in 1857; it is still in service, with a keeper's house attached. The lighthouse and the house are listed heritage, and the site is open to the public, but the tower itself cannot be visited.

The old trees
The lawns are shaded by large, gnarled trees, with benches and stone paths. It is one of Kadıköy's most pleasant parks for a picnic or some quiet reading.

The seafront
From the lawns the view takes in the Sea of Marmara and the boats entering the Bosphorus. Sunset is beautiful, but the bay of Moda, further north, is busier for that.

Tips
The park continues northwards into the bay of Kalamış and its marina, then the Moda seafront: the promenade runs along the water for several kilometres and is easy on foot or by bike; see our guide to Kadıköy and Moda. There is a paid car park near the park. The Fenerbahçe stadium is very close: on match days traffic and crowds increase sharply. There are cafés and picnic areas on site; bring water in summer.
How to get there
Fenerbahçe Parkı, Fenerbahçe Mahallesi, Kadıköy, Istanbul; by car, along Fener Kalamış Caddesi from the Fenerbahçe stadium. İETT bus lines FB1 and FB2 serve the area: check the route from your starting point in a transport app. On foot, you can reach it from Kadıköy along the seafront, via Moda and Kalamış.
