The Salı Pazarı, "the Tuesday market", is the big open-air market of Kadıköy, on Istanbul's Asian side. It is held in the Hasanpaşa district along Uzunçayır Avenue, on Tuesdays and Fridays, roughly from 9am to 6pm (days and hours taken from several local guides; no official website was consulted). The market has moved several times: for a while it stood in Fikirtepe, then returned to Hasanpaşa in 2021. People come for seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheeses, olives and spices, but also for clothes, tableware and second-hand goods. Entry is free and prices are those of a neighbourhood market, far from the tourist bazaars.
Highlights

Fruit, vegetable and cheese stalls
The growers call out their prices and Istanbul residents fill their bags for the week. The produce follows the seasons: tomatoes and peaches in summer, cabbages, tangerines and pomegranates in winter. Taste before you buy: sellers readily hand over a piece of cheese or an olive.

Spices, olives and dried goods
The condiment stalls sell chilli flakes (pul biber), sumac, dried mint, olives from several regions and dried fruit. They are sold by weight and slip easily into a suitcase.
Household goods and clothes
At the end of the food aisles, stalls line up selling textiles, crockery, household linen and accessories at market prices. On Fridays the offer leans more towards textiles than food, according to regulars.
The Kadıköy covered market
To round off the day, the permanent market behind the Kadıköy ferry pier, open every day, gathers fishmongers, butchers, cheesemongers and delicatessens. It is the right option if you are not there on a market day.

Tips
Come in the morning for the best choice; prices drop a little towards closing time, when sellers clear their stock. Bring small change in Turkish lira: small stalls do not always take cards. Prices are quoted per piece or per kilo; check the scale and ask the price before anything is weighed. Keep your bag closed in front of you in the crowd. This is a local market, not a tourist site: there is little English signage. Confirm days and hours on the spot, as Kadıköy municipality may change them (information as observed in October 2026).
How to get there
Uzunçayır Caddesi, Hasanpaşa, 34722 Kadıköy, Istanbul. From the Kadıköy ferry pier the market is about thirty minutes' walk to the east, or a few stops by bus or dolmuş; the easiest way is to book a taxi or use a navigation app. The ferry from Eminönü or Karaköy reaches the Kadıköy pier in 20 to 30 minutes; see our guide to Kadıköy and Moda.
