Crowds and prices in May
Demand is high: May is one of the most pleasant months, and so one of the busiest, and the old city is well filled. Kurban Bayramı changes the picture: hotels on the coast and in nearby towns are full, bus, train and plane tickets out of Istanbul are expensive, while the centre is quieter and many shops close. If your dates are flexible, avoid the week of 15 to 19 May for long journeys, or choose it for the festive atmosphere. See where to stay in Istanbul.
